Abstract

This article provides an overview of the current state and future directions of productivity research, highlighting developments in measurement (digital economy, intangibles, health care), firm-level analysis (frontier-laggard dynamics, reallocation), and the relationship between productivity and broader welfare outcomes. It emphasizes the growing importance of micro-level data and the need for international coordination in developing consistent productivity statistics, drawing on themes from the IARIW conference in Copenhagen and the IMF’s research agenda.
