Abstract

This review article examines the NBER volume A New Architecture for the U.S. National Accounts edited by Jorgenson, Landefeld, and Nordhaus. The reviewer summarizes the volume’s proposal to integrate the BEA National Income and Product Accounts, BLS productivity accounts, and Federal Reserve balance sheets into a fully integrated system of national accounts, discusses the implications of including imputed capital rental prices in GDP, and assesses the potential impact on measured economic growth and productivity.
