Abstract

This article updates earlier research on Swedish manufacturing productivity with data through 2004, finding that Swedish manufacturing productivity growth reversed its earlier underperformance in the 1990s and has exceeded the international average since 1993. Using a shift-share method applied to 18 sub-industries, the article finds that most of the Swedish outperformance in the latter half of the 1990s and early 2000s was driven by the radio, television, and communications equipment industry — and in particular by Ericsson.
