Abstract

Issue 41 features a symposium on the relationship between productivity and pay in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Four articles examine divergence (levels gap) and delinkage (incremental linkage), finding that pro-productivity policies still raise middle-class incomes even as other factors have driven productivity and typical pay apart. Two additional articles address the Penn World Table’s anomalous TFP estimates for low-income countries (Egypt case) and the dynamics of productivity dispersion in U.S. manufacturing. The issue closes with a response by Sickles and Zelenyuk to Balk’s review of their textbook.
