The availability of occupational projections may facilitate the work of the Friendship Centres by providing valuable information concerning future labour market outcomes, allowing their programs to more appropriately prepare Aboriginal Canadians with the required skills, training and education to meet expected labour demand. By surveying the best practices in labour market demand and supply modeling used by national, sub-national and sectoral organizations, this report will help provide a stronger understanding of the potential power of labour market forecasting, while acknowledging the difficulties and obstacles inherent in any projection process. Furthermore, this report will discuss methodologies that could be implemented by the Friendship Centres to estimate the prospective occupational labour supply and demand facing Aboriginal Canadians. Les centres d’amitié au Canada jouent un rôle essentiel dans le développement communautaire et économique en offrant des possibilités de formation et d’emploi, en facilitant le développement social et en renforçant les capacités humaines et matérielles des Autochtones canadiens. La disponibilité de projections professionnelles peut faciliter le travail des centres d’amitié en fournissant des renseignements précieux sur les résultats futurs du marché du travail, permettant ainsi à leurs programmes de mieux préparer les Autochtones canadiens aux compétences, à la formation et à l’éducation nécessaires pour répondre à la demande de main-d’œuvre prévue. En recensant les pratiques exemplaires en matière de modélisation de l’offre et de la demande sur le marché du travail utilisées par des organisations nationales, infranationales et sectorielles, ce rapport contribuera à une meilleure compréhension du potentiel des prévisions du marché du travail, tout en reconnaissant les difficultés et les obstacles inhérents à tout processus de projection. De plus, ce rapport examine les méthodologies que les centres d’amitié pourraient mettre en œuvre pour estimer l’offre et la demande professionnelles futures auxquelles font face les Autochtones canadiens.
