During the 1997-2010 period, real GDP in the province’s business sector increased at nearly twice the rate of Canada’s, while the province’s labour productivity growth was more than three times greater than Canada’s. This report provides a detailed analysis of Newfoundland and Labrador’s labour, capital and multifactor productivity performance and the factors behind this performance. It identifies the province’s shift to highproductivity oil extraction activities as the main factor responsible for this remarkable productivity growth while also discussing the positive spill-over effects that this shift has had on Newfoundland and Labrador’s economy as a whole. Portée par le secteur de l’extraction minière, pétrolière et gazière, l’économie de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador a connu une croissance impressionnante au cours de la dernière décennie. Durant la période 1997-2010, le PIB réel du secteur des entreprises de la province a augmenté à un rythme près de deux fois supérieur à celui du Canada, tandis que la croissance de la productivité du travail de la province était plus de trois fois supérieure à celle du Canada. Ce rapport propose une analyse détaillée de la performance de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador en matière de productivité du travail, du capital et de productivité multifactorielle, ainsi que des facteurs expliquant cette performance. Il cerne le virage de la province vers des activités d’extraction pétrolière à forte productivité comme principal facteur responsable de cette croissance remarquable de la productivité, tout en examinant les retombées positives de ce virage sur l’ensemble de l’économie de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador.
