This article presents new estimates of multifactor productivity for the Canadian provinces for the 1997-2007 period. In contrast to earlier estimates, these estimates incorporate both changes in labour and capital composition or quality. Reflecting differences in labour productivity and capital productivity, multifactor productivity growth varies greatly by province. Newfoundland enjoyed the strongest multifactor productivity growth and Alberta the weakest. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS ARTICLE is to present

Cet article présente de nouvelles estimations de la productivité multifactorielle pour les provinces canadiennes sur la période 1997-2007. Contrairement aux estimations antérieures, ces estimations tiennent compte des variations de la composition ou de la qualité de la main-d’œuvre et du capital. Reflétant les différences dans la productivité du travail et la productivité du capital, la croissance de la productivité multifactorielle varie considérablement selon la province. Terre-Neuve a enregistré la plus forte croissance de la productivité multifactorielle et l’Alberta, la plus faible.
