Festschrift and Dinner to Honour David Slater
David Slater was
celebrating his 80th birthday this October. To honour his many
contributions to economics in this country, the Centre for the Study of Living
Standards organized a dinner that was held Friday, October 19, 2001 in Ottawa
at the Chateau Laurier hotel.
At the dinner David was
presented with a festschrift entitled The
State of Economics in Canada: Festschrift in Honour of David Slater, to
which many leading Canadian economists have contributed. In addition, a small
number of persons who have worked with David over the years had been asked to
say a few works about their experiences with him. Speakers included
David Dodge, Ted English, Patrick Grady, Bill Hood, Steve Handfield Jones,
Kathleen Macmillan, Ed Neufeld, Simon Reisman, Andrew Sharpe, Gordon Sparks,
