Louis Marc Ducharmewas appointed Director of the Statistics Department of the International Monetary Fund on June 17, 2013. He was re-appointed for two additional three-year terms until he retired in May 2022. While he was at the IMF, he led the development of the first IMF Data and Statistics Strategy, which once endorsed by the Board in May 2018 gave additional responsibilities to the Statistics Department and he became the first Chief Statistician and Data Officer of the IMF. During his mandate (2013-2022), he provided technical advices to his peers, operationalized the subscription of many countries to the IMF highest tier of the Special Data Dissemination Standard, (the SDDS+), reinforced the capacity development activities of the department and encouraged close cooperation between producers and users of data, launching the Statistical Forum (IMF high level conference). Prior to joining the IMF, he spent 30 years at Statistics Canada where he held various senior positions in the areas of economic statistics. His last position was Assistant Chief Statistician responsible for Business Statistics and National Accounts (2010-2013). During his career he also provided technical assistance on economic statistics to numerous countries in Latin America. He has a D.Phil in Economics and science policy from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom, and both a master's and bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Montreal in Canada
